Teaching and Learning
At Browns Bay Taiaotea we provide a place that is welcoming, comfortable and fun.
We aim to present an attractive environnment that celebrates the children's work and play at kindergarten.
We value positive relationships with families that foster open communication and celebrate the diversity of our community.
We share a vision that children learn best through play. We extend children's learning by providing an environment which responds to and challenges their ideas, views and interests.
Browns Bay Taiaotea Kindergarten Philospohy:
- We believe children are our primary focus: each child is unique and brings an exclusive set of capabilities and needs to the kindergarten.
- We believe young children learn best through play and experience.
- We believe in the need to work in partnership with parents showing mutual respect and communication with openness and honesty.
- We believe the curriculum we offer must be based on Te Whaariki offering variety, and excitement for learning, challenge and fun.
- We believe in the importance of creating an attractive and child-orientated environment and that teachers should act as positive role models in achieving this.
- We believe each child’s learning will have been extended and enhanced by attending this quality kindergarten. • We believe that as teachers our attitudes and beliefs about children should be positive and affirming.
- We believe New Zealand has a unique bi-cultural heritage through the Treaty of Waitangi. Our particular community has a multi-cultural heritage. People of all backgrounds and cultures will be welcomed, accepted and respected.
- We believe in the importance of careful planning and reviewing of practice; the setting of specific goals for both the service and the children to ensure implementation of our philosophy. We also recognise children as active goal setters.
- We believe that ongoing professional development and support is essential for teachers to demonstrate growth.
