Te Kaupapa Korero
We believe that children are citizens of our community and have the right to a welcoming, safe, stimulating, affirming and challenging environment that enables them to develop and learn at their own pace.
The curriculum we follow is based on the Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whariki, and current research. It enables us to provide equitable learning opportunities for children by acknowledging the individuality, interests, passions, needs, abilities and strengths of each child.
We believe our teaching practice should strengthen children’s capabilities and competencies so that they lead their own learning. We aim to empower and support them during their learning journeys. We encourage them to communicate, to make positive choices and take responsibility for their actions.
We recognise the importance of the Treaty of Waitangi – Te Tiriti o Waitangi and commit ourselves to its three principles (Partnership, Protection and Participation) by acknowledging New Zealand’s bi-cultural heritage throughout the programme.
We value an environment that is inclusive where diversity is embraced. People of all backgrounds, abilities and cultures are welcomed and respected in our community. Our programme aims to reflect the rich and diverse make-up of the community. We value partnerships with parents and whanau which will support positive learning outcome for children.
Team planning is an important part of our practice which is based around noticing, recognising and responding; review of practice and the role of our environment in children’s learning and development.
We believe that ongoing professional development, both personal and as a team, is essential to refine and extend our teaching practices.
