Oaktree (Browns Bay) Kindergarten

Teaching and Learning at Oaktree Kindergarten

At Oaktree Kindergarten we provide a place that is welcoming, comfortable and fun. We aim to present an attractive environment that celebrates the children's work and play at Kindergarten. We value positive relationships with families that foster open communication and celebrate the diversity of our community. We share a vision that children learn best through play. We extend children's learning by providing an environment which responds and challenges their ideas, views and interests.

Our Team Philosophy...

We believe in building authentic and meaningful relationships; with each other, children, whanau and the wider community.  We embrace values of respect, understanding, open communication, honesty and integrity.  These attributes underpin our role as teachers.  It is our aim to empower children's learning, and nurture their developing confidence and self esteem.  We integrate a values based curriculum where all children are encouraged to learn through play with their peers, teachers and adults.  We plan and assess children's learning through the National Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whaariki.

Learning through discovery, wonder, exploration, interaction and play is valued within our team and teachers carefully integrate areas of learning into interests expressed by children.  Provocation and questioning is used to extend or intrigue children in their learning, and is sometimes used to introduce new ideas.

We value input from parents, whanau, teachers and the wider community.  This partnership contributes to driving our planning and it enhances our assessment, creating a community of learners approach.

We take pride in the diverse make up of our Kindergarten, and strive to honour the Treaty of Waitangi which embraces biculturalism.  Every person irrespective of difference in ability, disablility, gender, and cultural background is welcome here and teachers will offer every opportunity for this Kindergarten to be a place where we all feel safe and have a sense of belonging.
