A passionate interest in volcanoes was sustained over the entire term.  The highlight of this interest came on the final day of term when we all embarked on a volcanic adventure to Mt Eden and the volcano exhibit at the Auckland War Memorial Museum.  We were certainly blessed with fine weather and the use of the public bus lane in to town.

Our first unplanned stop off resulted in everyone being able to say they have explored the toilet facilities at the base of Mount Eden!

Walking around the crater was hugely popular and we were able to do some volcano spotting as we enjoyed lunch and an incredible view of our volcanic city.  Rangitoto was definitely the most popular feature with a split vote between those who were relieved and others who were a little disappointed that it was not erupting for our visit!

Our outdoor area continued to be a huge focus and a constant source of inspiration for our programme throughout the term.  Establishing and maintaining the garden, observing, collecting and classifying the local wildlife, harvesting and most recently a fascination with searching for recipes to use our produce for culinary delights!

The team from Majuba Beats visited us on 22nd March for a fun, interactive drumming session with African Djembe drums and assorted percussion instruments.  It was fantastic that Rae and Anita were also able to incorporate the childrens interest in volcanoes into the drumming session.  Since their visit we have been extending the interest in drums and percussion instruments.  We have researched many different types of drums and styles of music with the strong beats of the Pacific Islands becoming a hit!
