Current Learning
The children have all settled back in for the new term. As a continuation from our garden project, we have set up a compost system to make use of waste created by our garden and in turn it will feed our garden and replenish the soil for our next harvest.
Alongside this we have noticed that our weekly rubbish waste is excessive. Therefore we thought it was important to develop an understanding about recycling and what we can recycle and have children taking a responsibility for looking after our environment and local community: as our children are the future caretakers of our world. We would like to create an on-going recycling centre within our kindergarten as well as the children taking this knowledge home and educating family/whanau and looking after the beach, park and the local community in which they live.
Our Intentions:
* To help children become aware of global issues and teach them how that can make a difference within their community.
* To enable children to become aware of the importance of taking care of the environment and how their actions will have an impact upon the future of their world.
* To educate the children on how to reduce, reuse and recycle.
* For children, teachers and parents to learn along side each other about composting, worm farming, paper and plastic recycling.
