About Whangaparaoa Kindergarten

Mosaics designed by founding member
Whangaparaoa Kindergarten is a kindergarten day model with 1:10 ratio of qualified teachers to children.
At Whangaparaoa Kindergarten, we have 40 children attending the younger session on Thursday and Friday from 8.30am to 1.00pm and 40 children attending the older session on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8.30am to 2.30pm. All children start in the younger session.
Younger Sessions - Thursday and Friday
4 and 1/2 hour sessions: 8.30am to 1.00pm
Older Sessions - Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
6 hour sessions: 8.30am to 2.30pm
We enjoy a level, easy to supervise outdoor area. The sandpit includes surround seating giving us optimal space for creative play. A large amount of the outdoor area has attractive shade sails which provide safe areas for outdoor fun.
Our programme is a resource based programme that centres on children's individual strengths and skills, and is based on the NZ Early Childhood Curriculum - Te Whariki. We value our New Zealand heritage and promote bicultural awareness. We believe that children (nga tamariki), learn through play where exploration, investigation and experiences in a range of media and technology are valued ways of learning.

Whangaparaoa Kindergarten Enrolment Procedure
Rationale: Due to the high number of children on our waiting list, we wish to ensure a fair distribution of placements.
Procedure:

- The eldest child on the waiting list will be offered the next available space.
- When a child, who has been attending another public kindergarten transfers to Whangaparaoa kindergarten, they will be put on the waiting list and offered the next available space, provided the child meets the current starting age.
- When a child has been attending another public kindergarten transfers to Whangaparaoa kindergarten, but is younger than the current starting age, they will be offered the chance to visit until they are old enough to start.
- Any child moving into the area, who is the current starting age, will be put onto the waiting list and offered the next available space.
